November Foraging Walk: Coastal Edibles – Seaweeds, Invasive Species and Shellfish

When: November 15, 2026 8:30am – 10:00am
Where: Gloucester, NH
Cost: $50/person
Interested in learning how to identify edible seaweeds? Join me on a relaxing walk along the beach during low tide! This class is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast, nature lover, home cook, beginner forager, herbalist, or someone just looking to enjoy a day out in the woods with fun people.
We will be visiting one of my favorite spots to collect delicious seaweeds, periwinkles and more. While walking we will also identify various snails, whelks, and shellfish, discuss sustainable harvesting techniques and local laws, review invasive edible species like green crabs and collect specimens to study/taste. Learn 10-15 edible species that are available now.
*If you plan to harvest any seaweed, please make sure to bring a large plastic bucket with you, along with knee-high boots, as your feet may get wet.
**For those wishing to harvest shellfish like mussels and clams, please note that you need to purchase a one-day license through Gloucester Chamber of Commerce.
