June Public Foraging Events: Group Walks, Tastings & Wild Food Picnic

(*Note: I originally wrote this post yesterday, then got too hot to edit it and press ‘Send!’)

Today is not a day to forage.* It is currently a sweltering 94 degrees at my house in Newton, a slight improvement from yesterday’s 98 degrees on New Hampshire’s seacoast. Instead, I am sitting inside, shades drawn, AC cranked, reviewing and brainstorming the menu for this weekend’s first-of-the-year monthly forage and wild food picnic.

The drinks, appetizers and main courses are coming together beautifully and I can’t wait to share new recipes along with some old standards with you!

The crazy high temperatures followed by torrential downpours and cooler forecast does bode well for June fungi. Pheasant Back mushrooms have already emerged and Chicken of the Woods are not far behind.

As lilacs and magnolias die back, new edible flowers welcome warmer temperatures with their sweet smelling blooms, including black locust (pictured above), elderflower, dame’s rocket, beach rose and linden. Seasonings and herbs like peppergrasses and mints beg to be added to salads, pickles and wild crafted cocktails or mocktails. And salt marshes explode with succulent, salty treasures including samphire. orache, sea beans and beach peas. June truly is a forager’s paradise!

Due to last year’s interest in salt marsh forages, I have added an extra date to this year’s schedule and will be holding 2 public events up in Hampton, NH mid-month. Spaces are limited due to parking, so be sure to book your tickets soon to avoid disappointment!

I am also super pumped to be holding the Third Annual Pride Forage followed by Tasting & Happy Hour on June 13 in Waltham. This is one of my favorite events of the year! All are welcomed to come out and take part.

For those interested in private excursions, I am currently booking out about a month in advance. If there is a specific date you have in mind, please contact me early to ensure availability.

Hope to see you out in nature soon!
