May Foraging Walks: Upcoming Group Events

This year, early April showers and a classic New England nor’easter, followed by consistent mid 60 degree weather have spurred equally early blooming flowers – well ahead of May’s normal blossoming season.

Currently, cherry blossoms are nearing end, magnolias are mid-madness, dandelions dazzle along hill tops, wintercress and garlic mustard tempt passersby with showy clusters of floral goodness, and so many planted ornamentals beckon for inclusion on the table.

Morel mushroom reports from all across New England have steadily streamed in over the past few days, echoing earlier than normal start dates, including Maine!

And, as I write this, I am laying on my couch with a heating pad on my back – a repercussion of my trip out west to the Berkshires yesterday, where I spent three glorious hours surrounded by trillium, trout lily and ramps.

May truly is one of my very favorite times to forage. The list of tasty wild edibles available during a period of approximately 4 to 6 weeks is a bit overwhelming. With mother’s day around the corner, it is the perfect time to go outside and explore nature’s bounty!

Continuing on with monthly themes, May’s public foraging events will highlight the numerous wild plants, flowers, trees and roots that are perfect for pickling! Each walk will conclude with a tasting of some of my most recent recipes including quick pickled magnolia flowers, dandelion capers and pickled spring onions with ramps, and a discussion on how to make your own at home.

Join me for a public foraging walk, or consider booking a private class and pair it with my newly offered foraged picnics (more on that next month) to enjoy a truly curated experience!
